Uh oh, so i realized i was converting meq/l to ppm incorrectly. My test for alk measures for ppm and i am shooting for 3.25p-3.5 meq/l. I thought I would need to bring the alk to 200+ ppm, but I just found a calculator and realized that is way off.

The 160 ppm puts the alk at 3.2 meq/l or 9 dkh. I just dosed the tank fairly heavy and only with alk, after realizing this i added some calcium also to make it equal. Hopefully it doesnt spike anything too bad.

If my crappy additions didnt' mess up the water too much today, it should be right where I want it

If it was 3.2 meq/L you should be ok - it would take quite a bit to be dangerous - although this does depend on how you are adding it too.. (if slowly or not, what time of day too) ... I add mine in the morning about an hour before lights on. If I have to add more than the usual, sometimes I use my Kent Marine IV doser. FWIW

yea i add it in the morning too. Its turned out about perfect, after tonight calcium is around 440 and dkh is just under 10. So now ill continue to test and just try and keep it stable. I dont have a magnesium kit yet
