Did a ten gallon water change. I am a bit flustered by my testing error with mag but at least I caught it early and diluted. Every thing looks great. I will pick this thread back up early in the week after some tests tomorrow night to see where things are at.

    Edit:

    8/29 tests:
    alk 2.83
    cal 380
mag 1662.5 (down from over 2000!)

Unbuffered Seachem salinity salt always brings my alk and calcium down. :( Unfortunately I had to mix my new esv calcium additive with new ro/di and it has to sit for 24-72 hours. So I will correct all this once that is done.

I dose b-ionic alk/ca/mg twice a week manually. I was really lazy finding the correct amount though. I would test my water at my LFS, who was very helpful, the day prior to my WC. We got it down nicely after about a month of testing, weekly. Been on my dosing regimen for a few months and everything is stable and consistent.

Hi Matt. I've been out for a while. Where are you at with this?

One thing with WC's... you know to let the new mixed water sit for a day right? After that day, you'll need to test the big 3 there too and probably dose that to bring it up to target so you don't have any drops from the WC. Nice thing there is you can raise it as much as needed at once without worrying about shocking the system :)

I have added a lot of SPS without needing to adjust, but I have had to add a second in the past.

I'll test on day A. It looks good. On day b (probably about 30 days later) I may notice a drop. What I do then is go to the 3reef calculator or the BRS calculator and figure out what I need to add to bring it back to par. I go ahead and do that. I also divide that number by 30 (or whatever the test interval was) and adjust my doser to increase by whatever that division equaled.

But to do that, you need to know the drip rates of the doser. You probably already figured this out in the beginning. But the easiest way (for me) is to turn it on for 10 or 60 seconds and let it fill a measuring cup (in ml) and divide by 10 or 60.

If I can be of any help with this, ping me again ;)

I LOVE that thread. It is exceptionally awesome.

Hey Peredhil is back! Sweet. :)

Thanks for the help. I did think of that water change issue later. What I noticed was that calcium crept up over the next day from 375 to about 420 as a result.

As of last night after dripping alk, I should be at 4 meq/L alk and 441 calcium. I will know tonight. I will test again tomorrow night as well to see what the drops are and use your math to determine daily dose. I will do this all again next week over a greater period of time to be more accurate, but I am going to MACNA and need to tell my tank sitter what to add in the short term.
