I was told that the Euphyllia in the pic is a hammer coral (Euphyllia ancora) but it never makes those little scicle shapes with the end of its tentacles. My book has pictures of two others that look closer--grape corals (E. cristata) and branching frogspawn (E. paradivisa). The branching frogspawn pic in the book looks most like what I have. Anybody have any thoughts?

The piece has at least 12 heads--you can only see about 3 from this pic. As soon as I find the battery charger for my camera and get some power for it I will snap a better pic.

It could still be a hammer, some of the polyps are shaped in an oblonged oval shape. They don't have to form perfect little sickles(sp. ?). To me it looks more like a hammer than a frogspawn or torch. But sometimes they are so hard to differentiate.

I agree, it looks like a hammer to me too. Is it new in your tank? If it is maybe it will take some time to fully extend the tentacles into it's characteristic shape, I can see a little bit of elongation on the tips though.

    Euphyllia can interbreed.

There are lots of morphs and this is one.

Well, it has been in my tank for 4 mo's now. I assumed it was happy because the heads are dividing and there are new little heads growing all over the bases of the mature ones. Also, my torch is dividing and my frogspawn just did--both of the those Euphyllia sp. are doing great in my tank.

Will post more pix including pix from the book I was looking at later today. Here are the current params:

    Temp--75.5
    SG--1.023
    pH--8.4
    dKH--9.3
    Ca--440
    Mg--1290
    PO4--0
    'trates/'trites/ammonia--all 0
