    Hi
At the moment i have a reflective lid on my tank so the evaporation of water is just dripping back in, but i'm soon to be purchaseing a hanging hood which can house 312watt of t5 lighting, my question is how much water am i likely to loose weekly to evaporation?

    Tank opening measure 101x40cm

    Cheers

As far as I'm aware there are no hard and fast rules to working this out. There are a fair amount of factors that will determine your evaporation rate, but as your tank is already running then really it's going to be down to whatever you change. In this case it's your lights and hood. If your lights produce a lot of heat and are near the water service then you will get increased evaporation, but I'm sure you knew that already and I'm just rambling on!

I have to top up my tank with around 5 to 6 gallons a week and my tank measures roughly around 120x50, but every tank is different.

Sorry I couldn't be more help, maybe others will be able to give you a better idea.

Since adding MH, I probably have to do twice that in my 125 which has a completely open top.

No worry about humidity in this house. :p

You need to uncover the top because that is where all your gas exchange is.

So its better to have a open hanging canopy rather then a closed lid one?

You have a full hood or tight fitting tops ? I ran tanks for ever with full hood But I have the entire back open with Fans pulling fresh air in all the time I never had an issue with condensation.. You must have that top sealed up tighter then Dicks Hat band . If you are having condensation issues it may need to be loosened up a tad . :)

Not having condensation issues, just enquireing on how much i am likely to loose in water when i get my new hanging light canopy in place, at the moment the lid just lies across the top of the tank in one piece, so waters just dripping off it back into the tank...
