i have a qestion about evaporation. ever since i have set up my tank it seems like i have to top off about 3 gal per day. i am wandering if this is common? and if its due to the tank size because i had a 55 gal tank before and didn't have this problem before. anything i can do to slow it down?

    thanks

That seems like a lot for a 55...what kind of lighting setup we working with here?

I have about 1.5 gal evaporation per week...in my 29g. What size tank is this? What are you running for lighting? How far above the water are the lights? Do you run fans? What temp do you keep the tank at?

In larger tanks, more water will evaporate. Same goes if you have more intensive lighting.

my tank is 125 gal. i have 4 bulb 216w t5's that set about 6" above the tank and i don't have any fans. my temp runs at 79 degrees. i had a 55 gal a few years back and may have had 2 gal of evaporation a week but this just seems crazy. everyday when i get home from work i have to top off my tank.

That doesn't seem out of line for a 125.

I suggests setting an ATO reservoir. You will be much happier, not having to top off(yourself) everyday & should have more stable params. Maybe a 30g brute trashcan.
