It is a real fine like silt and while it was mixing I could see a film on the surface

I'm really new so I don't know if this is the same, but I have a white coating like that on the bottom of all my mixing buckets--I was mixing a new bag of IO with Seachem reef [ trying to change over] I bought new Rubbermaid cans, made a new batch of Seachem only and there is no residue. So maybe it's the salt.

I had something like that in my R/O holding drum, mine wasn't quite as fine looking as that appears. Are your cartridges old in your R/O unit? Looks like calcium that I get in the water if I don't use the R/O water where I am. I just needed circulation you obviously have a pump running in there so I dunno.

Seem exceesive though whatever it is. I alos remember something like that happening when I used to use tapwater and would forget to declorinate it. I think thought that there are additives in the salt now to prvent that.??

i get that too. isnt it just salt? when water evaporates the salt stays....but because the salt desolved in the water before it resaulted in it to be a coating over the bucket after the water left?

Just changed them all and I have a TDS reading of 1 after the DI

I could see it in the barrel when the water was still mixing. Also checked for PO4 and had 0 ppm

Never have I seen the like using RC or IO...which I have used for very long time...

Are you mixing anything else in?

If not, would say you definitely have some kind of source water issues...:-/

no additives, just mixed up with freshly made RO/DI with a tds of 1. checked what was left of RO/DI water and shows a tds of 1 with 2 different meters. Only thing different was it mixed for about 3 days were as I usually use it after 24 hours. I mixed up 2 30 gal. cans of this for the 180 build I am currently doing and both looked like this.

    That could be it....

I mix up only what I want to use and aerate it with an airstone for 4-6 hours before doing water change.

You may want to consider using an airstone after mixing up and while sitting if you don't already...RO/DI water definitely needs some oxygenation before going into tank. Helps totally mix salt in also.

    May help...:-/
