I believe it is precipitation of calcium from your salt!

Any Idea what would cause the calcium to precipitate like that. So far the batch I mixed up today looks fine.

Calcium carbonates causing the problem . I/O Reef Crystals will do this sometimes . How are you mixing the salt water , Are you adding salt to the barrel of water or adding water to the salt ?
Always add the salt to the barrel of water as this will allow you to avoid getting that super saturated salinity level with super high DKH and Ca. levels all mixing with CO'2 rich air then a source of water ..

Thanks Tangster, I always fill the barrel first then add the salt 1 cup at a time. Must be just a freak batch cause I mixed up 3o gal yesterday and it looked fine.

For what it is worth packagerat I just switched to Reef Crystals, and the third 30 gallon batch that I made happened to be this weekend. Guess what everything in my barrel looked like....same as yours. Didn't happen the first two batches?!?!

usually it does'nt rain calcium like that unless your adding aditives together instead of waiting in between.i've never seen it happen like that.

No additives added. I mixed a total of 6 barrel's over the last 3 weeks and 2 of these did this. I have been using reef crystals for a year now and this only time I seen this. Only thing diffrent is they were mixed in the garage so mother nature would warm them. At the time it was 78 degrees in garage. Last batch turned out fine mixed the exact same way.
