If possible, a pair of fans set to push in cool air with another set to pull should do the trick. With any increase in air movement over the water evaporation is going to rise, but the upside is this should cool your display tank out and let your chiller take a break.

I agree here, IF yor gonna add fans put them on top and have them both drawing air from inside the hood to straight up...this way to the side's of your hood are not compromised... Also when your sittin next to or simply walking by your tank not punched in the face by light...

    I hope this helps...

Ps.. with the surface area of your tank your gonna evap water no matter what you do.. all Part of the reef keepin hobie unless you have a auto top off system and cheat a little bit there....

P.S.S.. When in doubt also you can alter your Lighting period so your MH's are not on as long.. Meaning if you have them on for 10hrs drop the runn time to lets say 8hr's and runn your T5's or Vho's or what ever lights your running till your normal photo period. Keep in mind to the summer months are here and so is the extra heat....

    Good luck...

How would you suggest I mount the fans if you think they should suck air up? Taking a look at the pics I provided... I have room in the bow front area... and behind the unit in the back...
But the only way to mount them is to the actual unit itself which is metal... any suggestions on how to do it so the fans don't drop in the water!!!

Also do i put one on each side in the front... (2)
one of each side on the back (2)
    a total of 4

Or just one in the back and one in the front ? alsok a ... 3" , 4" ... fan?

Id toss a set pushing air in from the back of the hood across the surface of the water, with another two fans in the bow area blowing hot air up and out. Should see a good drop in temp between the evaporation and cool air being circulated. Probably just go with the largest fans you can A) fit and B) deal with the noise. Other option would be hooking them up to a temp controller so they only come on at a pre-designated temp.

Here is a pic of my fans (3)--They really do help-I can feel the heat coming out and I only run 8 T-5's--They are just cheap PC fans that run down to a 12v power supply from radio shack.

madlarkin and robman-- great suggestions! Thanks for the pic example as well!
The fans in the back blowing air in is the easy part... I'm just trying to figure out how to get fans blowing air up and out from the bow front...?

Those fans I showed you blow out not in. So a bow should not matter.

I have a 46 gallon bow with a sunpod 2 150Mh bulbs no actinics and have no heat issues. I have a little fan in the back that blows air right to the front of the tank. I set it so its not blowing directly at the water but closer to the fixture. My temp is set at 75. I have a Marineland Stealth Heater. Their is no light when it comes off and on. The main reason usually for peoples tanks getting too hot is the room temp. My room temp is set at 75. Have you lowered the room temp? What lighting fixture do you have? I do not have a canopy anymore on mine. Your canopy even with the back open is still not helping you. Take it off and you will like how it looks.

That would be my advice to anyone with a canopy, but the OP already stated his wife is against this, so it's not an option. :(

My room temp. is 76 at all times... any lower and the electric bill would really spike with the s. texas heat... The difference is your canopy is off... that's helping you... I can get air to move in... but I want to place to fans to suck air up and out from the bow front area... just trying to get ideas on how to secure them either to the fixture hanging parallel and face up to suck ... or some other way without cutting holes in the nice canopy in the front in plain sight.
