I noticed my EVO 1400 had stopped working as I did my water change. So I took it apart and cleaned it but now it seems to be sucking in instead of pushing water.

I've taken it apart two more times and there's nothing in the booklet that came with it. Anyone ever experience this?

There should be a little rubber bump stop in the front cage that keeps it from running in reverse. If it's missing that will be it, if not, then it is possible the front is cracked. Either way if you contact Hydor they have great customer service and should ship out the parts right away.

This happens to my Evo750's from time to time. Just unplug it then plug it back in until it restarts in the right direction.;)

Plugging and unplugging is not the answer and really is just a luck of the draw.
If this continues and you cannot find the rubber bump stop, Evolutions are guaranteed for two years and Hydor will send you replacement front grilles free of charge. Its usually the grille that breaks out where the bumper fits so it cannot be repaired.

Luck. What do you do when you are not home? Fix the powerheads with the free replacement grilles or on some of the first generation pumps it was the bushing on the impeller shaft, and you will eliminate this problem.

It rarely happens to mine. Only when there is a power interuption. The funny thing is mine have the bump stops and the covers don't appear to be cracked. I will look into replacing my bushings.Thanks.
It really doesn't hurt anything when they run backwards but to answer your question I just fix them when I get home.;)

They should NEVER start or run backwards period. If they do its either the bushing has slipped or the bump stop/cover is damaged or missing, otherwise they will start correctly every time. Heck, they pay for the parts and shipping so take advantage of it.
