I have a hard time believing filter socks are the issue. I would definitely say GFO and way too low phos is the issue. I feed so much to my fish and corals that my phos usually stays at around 0.08 on my hanna checker. Just sayin...

How much did you spend on that booger...I mean space invader? :)

You may well be right. I just couldn't help but notice how much worse things were getting two weeks after I had washed all the socks in the washing machine. So I couldn't help but wonder if they all got something in them, and each time I put a "clean" one in I was leaching more of it into the tank. Could be coincidental however, as that was also 2 weeks after I replaced the GFO too.

And yeah, I pour the food in too, 3 times a day to keep everyone fed. And then I'll feed phyto, oyster feast, roe, and roti's 2-3 times a week on top of that.

As for the tiny frag, $150... :-X :-[

Aqua SD stole all my play money the last few weeks. I've been forced it sit at home in the living room with the tank. Darn.

I still have nightmares about AquaSD and the summer of '11.

Congrats Hunter, corals look great. It would appear you had too little nutrients in the system.

I was always too scared to put my socks in our washer due to left over soap in my system. I can run an empty load with no soap and I still get suds in my water. So I just rinse them out, ring them, rinse them and let them dry. After about 6 uses I've been replacing them. I also only put them in when I'm cleaning the glass and blowing my rocks off (that always sounds so bad HA) then a day after that i take them out for the next 5 or 6 days and go sockless.
I am glad to see everything turning around!

Victimized... yes, something like that. 8) But at least I've got these nifty things in my tank now.

Pfft. As if you don't still place orders...

Thanks John. That's what the evidence supports at this point. I don't believe high Ca was much of a contributor, but it certainly doesn't need to be up there. Targeting 410 now and going to hold Alk at 7.5 to 8. I'm going to keep the lights turned down where there at for a while too and see how that goes.

Yeah, that was always me too but at 10PM I didn't feel like doing it in the dark that night, and I knew I'd need one the next day. Considering they take a day to dry, I just went ahead and did it. FWIW, LPS were having issues long before this decision, so I don't think the washer was the sole source. But our tap water is horrible here, so still wonder what might not have been evaporating off the socks. Sure, it's just a little residual, but a little residual every 4-5 days builds up, eventually.

    Thanks. :)

Has never been collected, and probably won't be for a long time. Unless you get a collector who's willing to risk their life (not by virtue of the dive itself).

Just my own opinion here, but that's C. lunatus. I think someone paid thousands for a relatively common fish. Not a new species. I'll publish something more official on that someday.

Sure, it's been photographed... once. And even if it becomes available, it's still in the rubriventralis complex and I wouldn't risk a bully.

    Come at me bro! :p

Hopefully a blue linckia is in the cards today...
