    Thank you Ma'am.

Some of the acros are really cooking now. :) So much that I got a little behind on the dosing... oops. Ca was somewhere around 340. Corrected the last couples days and bumped the auto-doser to 400ml of Ca/Alk per day. I'm soon going to need jugs bigger than a gallon. :)

Any tips on how to make the rics stop? ;D Seriously though, one was about to overtake the Red Planet; I had to do the scissor stop (which got a bit messy). Seems to be working though... Just wish there was an easy way to get rics off without needing a chisel outside the tank.

I'll send the wife over...she'll take all the rics off of your hands. ;D Rics are like crack to her.

I have a bit of sad news, I'm afraid.

I lost my Lineatus during the night.

I have no idea why either; that's the saddest part.

Tuesday he was out and about, eating just fine. Later in the evening, I saw a small sandstorm on the right side of the tank and he wasn't to be seen. After a few minutes, I peaked into the rock where he always sleeps, and there he was, a bit stressed. I don't know who/what had spooked him. Once the whites kicked off, he came back out until the actinics shut off, an hour later (like usual).

Yesterday when I got home, he wasn't out at all. I looked and again saw him in his rock, but this time was very stressed. I left him be, but did keep a close eye on the situation. I couldn't see any particular fish who might have been bothering him, with the possible exception of the Tomini Tang. I've never seen any of my fish try to scuffle with the Lineatus before. And the Tomini hasn't ever been overly aggressive either, so I don't know what to think about that. Anyhow, the Lineatus seemed to be calming down as the night progressed. When the tank was down to actinics, he looked rather calm, but was still in hiding. This morning he was stiff at the bottom of the tank.

Any ideas? I'm thinking he may have just passed naturally, as there's no apparent aggression problems nor any problems with any of the other fish. He always appeared healthy and was always a pig when it came feeding time.

oh no! this is really really sad :( especially because he was so beautiful and expensive!
It sounds natural but i have no clue what it was... it could be anything really.

one time i had a healthy melanurus for quite a few months and it was doing great! then one day it just randomly developed a very large bump under its scales and died a day later. I attribute it to internal parasites/infection?

Thanks Trent. I have to agree at this point, likely something internal. Now what that may have been, anyone's guess is as good as another. Nothing was visually wrong. I did check his mouth/gills when I took him out this morning.

Aww. I'm sorry to hear that, bud. On the bright side, you can keep an eye out for another. In the meanwhile, you can borrow mine. =)

I am sorry to hear that man. Always a bummer to lose fish, especially when you have no idea what could have happened.

I had a friend of mine lose a tang a few days ago who had no apparent signs. But upon examination after he died his stomach was hard as a rock. Then he said after the fact that once he thought about it, he hadnt seen the fish poop in a while. So it obviously was some sort of digestion issue.

There are so many things that we will never understand about the creatures we keep, and it is unfortunate to say the least. Until they start talking to us....
