New tank excitement...You cant beat that!

I tend to like the idea of a 4 foot by 3 foot tank, but 5 foot by 27" is even better I think. I think those dimensions fill a room better.

I knew you'd come around! I am trying to get a new setup myself...

Found a few sizes that will work for me, but that damn V is taking all my $$$! I found a 180 gallon rimless near me, but the seller wants to sell all equipment with it, including a bio-ball sump, Koralias, and Chinese LED eBay fixtures...ugh!

I've talked with DSA multiple times, and have seen a few tanks at my LFS made by DSA. Great quality! Nice looking tanks, different sizes than the norm, but the price is steep IMO. My LFS has a (discontinued) 60x30x24 (185) reef-ready. That is my perfect size, but I don't want it RR...as I want to use it as a see-through tank. Picky picky me. Wider is always better! :p

It's similar to the deep dim. 250; 60x37x27.
    The 60x27x27 makes it a 190.
And lol @ "my friend Jason". Don't feel like name dropping eh? ;) But noted.

Yeah, that's the direction I'm leaning at this point too.
    Thanks Chris.

See why it's better to buy something you can just drive and be happy with? :p Bummer with the difficult locals, but not worth that hastle.

I hadn't even seen one 'till yesterday; they had a 105 rimless on the floor. I was rather impressed. I was even impressed with the factory stand; had a nifty deep molded-in vinal tray in the bottom of it. Price didn't see too off me, marked at $999 for the tank only. And as much business as I do at this LFS, I'm confident they won't put a huge profit margin on whatever they sell me.

It's funny how you don't appreciate the depth in any tank until you've been around one for a while.

I am happy driving it...very happy. I'll be happier after I'm done! :p As will my wallet.

Your LFS and my LFS I'm sure are miles apart, both literally and figuratively. $1K sounds about right for the tank alone. The 185 gallon from DSA to my door was $1600. My LFS has it priced on "Clearance" for $2750 for the tank alone, and $4500 for tank, stand and canopy. Wonder why it's been sitting there for two years?!

The only thing stopping me from buying a deep dimension tank is the purchase of multiple MP40's or 60's. I love the Vortech's...but damn. I think I am going to setup a 75 gallon in the meantime to tide me over until my project(s) are done. Then!...Then I build the 300G monster in my Living Room!

Well, new additions arrived Saturday morning.

I swore the P. angulatus was DOA. Fins erect, mouth gapping, eyes rolled up, no gill movement; yeah all signs pointed to dead. Then I realized why: water temps were freezing, somewhere around 60F. Cold packs had been placed in the box, and were entirely unnecessary in yesterday's weather. The M/F Nahacky's looked fine; a bit lethargic but alright.

So I took the Royal out of the bag and was looking at him closely in my hand, just to make sure he was really DOA. Then his tail kicked. Alright, back in the bucket you go...

And then he made it through aclimation. I was completely floored. No way you could have convinced me that fish was alive when I took the bag out of the box.

So today everyone looks good, and all three are eating.

In other news, a new 190g is looking rather good. 60x27x27 with Starfire on the front/sides. I should have some quotes tomorrow and some more info.

Grats on the fish! I'll send good vibes that way you keep them progressing.

Happy to hear that it made it! I had the same experience with a cold pack from them once before.

    Me too. :)

    Soon. ;)

    Thanks Alex.

I'm sure they have a standard protocol that's followed for cold packs; i.e. if destination temp >95F, then cold pack.
However Saturday started rather overcast, and was in the upper 80s/low 90s; forecast was a little off. So I can't really blame them; #%*@ happens.

BTW, I ordered a water test and dropped my samples back in the mail on Saturday. I'll forward you the results this week.
