Sorry for the loss, the cyano really doesn't seem to need much and it will remove a lot of nutrients from the water so you may have more than the tests show.

Thanks for the advice guys. I didnt list the nitrate test result, didnt even bother because its never detectable either. But it was zero as always.
So I should try to test the water with other brand? I know Hanna is really accurate and I would like the number result. I will look into it.

I changed the GAC and this time I put only 3/4 cup! The carbon in the canister shouldnt be tumbling at all, right?

Have been thinking lately again about my return pump. I still have a 20 gallon sump with the MagDrive18 (t'ed back) for the return. When I was planning the build, obviously I didnt know about the sump size/return pump rate ratio: Im gonna try the MagDrive3 that has laying around the house before I buy a different pump. I calculated the Mag3's flow after the headloss as 225gph.

Do you guys think having so much flow in the sump has something to do with chaeto dissipating? The chaeto didnt have enough time to intake nutrient to grow? And having healthy chaeto in the sump helps to reduce the phosphate/nitrate?

That is some low flow rate through your sump a lot of it is preference though. As far as the Cheato thing goes I didn't have any success with mine either just broke apart on me and I had the ability to control the flow to that part of the sump.

If you want to reduce the nitrates and phosphate try out a scrubber.

I switched to a small MJ utility, which I calculate I'm getting about 250 gph after headloss. I like it, but am still waiting to post a long-term review. Your tank's temp will likely stabilize more during the day if you suffer from temp swings.

As far as chaeto, I'm not sure flow matters too much, as it absorbes dissolved nutrients (doesnt need to catch small particles). Also, if your chaeto is dissipating/dissolving, and you are still seeing cyano, the cyano could be a result of the chaeto releasing nutrients as it's dying off.

What are your nitrates? I see below you get a reading of 0 PO4.

My chaeto is dying too and I can control flow(pretty slow). and I am having a bad...well horrible cyano outbreak, worse then during cycle. Waiting for my BRs GFO reactor to arrive.

    Thanks for the advice, guys.
Ok, so I swapped the return pumps today. OMG so quiet! and the Mag3 consumes only 35w (compare with 145w!). The flow is a bit less than what Id like, but Ill see.

It has been a while since the chaeto was removed from the sump. But there are some particles left in the sump, gotta clean it up. So really, again, why do I have cyano creep on a few rocks right in the middle of the tank?

Im gonna look into ordering more rocks (20~30lbs) from ReefCleaners. Oh and are mangroves good to have in the sump? Would 10 red mangroves be enough?
