Why is this? What kind of problems? What were their tank paramaters? How did they introduce the biopellets?

Not trying to be harsh, but I don't like blanket statements, especially since I'm trying to learn as I go along as well. I've read many successes, and some failures as well. From what I can tell, most problems arise when people introduce a full dose of BPs into a tank with high nutrient levels (>20 nitrates). The other problem is when people continue to limit their feedings like it was before introducing BPs. They essentally starve the tank of nurients.

I (as are probably many others) really am interested if you can gather the facts about what happened. PM me if you can, I dont want to hijack this thread. Perhaps we can start an unofficial biopellets thread.

No you dont understand, insanespain, neither of nitrates or phosphates are detectable (by the kits I have), but Im seeing the signs that they exist in my system.

    Im still baffled...

Food has nitrates and phosphates in it. So feeding will cause them. If you have a we bit of algae here and there in your tank then you should have no problems. Also test kits are not that accurate to give you a good decimal reading of your parameters. 0 on a kit could be and most likely is greater than 0 by at least 1/2 of what the next reading on the table is.

Hey John thanks, but that tiny bit what I cant even detect is causing the cyano and green algae film on the glass?

Yup, I've suffered from much worse cyano than you're describing, all the while my nitrate and phosphate both undetectable with liquid test kits.

Even prior to vodka dosing, I struggled a long time with cyano. Turns out the live rock I had at the time was leaching phosphates into the water... took me a while to discover that.

Cyano needs very little to grow.

Yeah so I heard.. but how does a piece of rock release phosphate?
