I am going to set up my 75 gallon FOWLR tank soon. Do you think I should go with the HV-1 hang on skimmer rated up to 100 gallons, or go witht the HV-2 rated up to 150-200 gallons? Anyone have one of these or any ideas?

    Thanks,

we actually sell these in our shop, they are both very good skimmers for the money. if you are not going to heavy stock the 75 then the small one should be enough, if heavily stocked then go with the bigger one. the bigger one uses a rio hyper flow, which is an ok pump considering its a rio, it also has a true venturi. the smaller one uses a venturi driven rio 800, not too bad of a pump, although you may have to clean the venturi kinda often as it is a small one, we have sold a boatload of these skimmers all the way back when they were known as the "big mobassa"

My tank is only 24 inches high, will that be a problem hanging the HV-2 on?

    Thanks

no it shouldn't be, that skimmer is not much bigger than the smaller one, its just mostly a larger diameter reaction chamber and pump

I found a place on the net where they go for 139.99 brand new. I figure for an extra 30 bucks I might as well upgrade.

    Thanks

if that is the larger excalibur then by all means get it, they are good skimmers and will last quite a while, the rio pumps are a little suspect but they are readily available so go for it

Yes that is for the large one, the only concern I had was that it is 29 inches long and my tank is 21. Will this affect the skimmers production?

    Thanks,
