So I have this problem with "stuff" floating around in my tank. As you can see in the video, it is excessive. I do admit we don't have enough water flow in this 75gal (approx 1600gph), I have just ordered a Koralia 4 to put in it to help. Can a lack of flow and detritus build up cause all this?

Last week (thursday) I put a make shift filter sock (pantyhose) on the end of the drain pipe going into my sump, it has been collecting well.

?!@#$% I can't figure out how to embed this video...

Hi bc, not sure but are you one that stirs/siphons the sand and/or uses the turkey baster to blow on the rocks? Seems one of the power heads may be blowing low and to the back. That is all I could make out from the video. Check the sump to see if there is any crud where the return is.

I do use the turkey baster when doing water changes to blow the detritus off the rocks (since I've been noticing the excess amount). We noticed that a lot of it was int he back due to the lack of flow back there so that power head was put there a couple months ago. I haven't turkey basted the detritus for about a week now. This tank has always had this issue and it seems to be getting worse. Could it just be powerhead placement? Do you think my pantyhose filtersock will eventually help clear it up??? Regarding the sump I just cleaned it out completely last week (when I did the last water change). Sump also has a blue plastic sponge thing between bioball area and sump area with pumps... Ugh.

That Dendronepthea should be hanging upside down out of the light. They don't have much in the way of CaCO3 spicules and if it continues to lay against that rock, it will just rot.

It's not leaning against a rock, it just looks like it in the video. Stupid carnation, I know it will die anyway, luckily I didn't pay for it. I want to hang it but haven't figured out where yet. I'm not even feeding it currently because last week I noticed the beginning of a hair algae outbreak (my first). (I think I'm going to make hair algae post like everyone else who gets it.)

ANYWAYS I think I figured out my excessive detritus problem. After inspection of the sump I noticed detritus... odd I thought since I just cleaned it out good. My ghetto filtersock came loose from where it was on the output of the drained water and I think the detritus was coming out the open end and going into sump.

Yes... and I turned it down a bit so the bubbles were smaller, I'm getting a bit less skimmate but it's darker and nastier.
