I was looking at a 1 gallon Finnex External Refugium/Breeder Hang-On Box for my 29 gallon reef tank. Right now I just have 30+ lbs of live rock, two power-heads and a HOB filter. I was wondering if this will have a big enough impact to justify purchasing one. My levels are all in line and I currently change out 3 gallons a week. Thanks in advance for the advice.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I put a large CPR fuge on my 28 gallon. The fuge was in place for 1 year with a Tunze Doc skimmer. In my experience it was not worth the money spent, and made no noticeable difference with regard to water quality. The CPR fuge I used held considerably more than 1 gallon.

Thanks for telling me about your experience with them. I was mainly thinking about it as a place to store chaeto because I don't have a sump. Would you recommend a filter/skimmer combo?

If you can hide a HOB modified filter or fuge than it's a good place for Chaeto. You can also ball the Chaeto up and place it behind rock work, in an area of adequate lighting and mod flow. Sometimes you can use a simple strawberry basket to contain the Chaeto.

I'll try the basket idea. Maybe see if I can find something form hobby lobby and slap a few suction cups to it. I'll post pics if I find something.
