I'm looking for suggestions from those with experience using an external HOB skimmer.

Here's some spec's I'm working with. I'm running the CPR HOB Aquafuge Medium. My lights sit on legs on the tank. I would want the skimmer to hang of the fuge.

At the moment I have the Hydor Slim Skim Nano skimmer and I hate it. It takes up to much room in my tank. Whether it's because my tank isn't dirty enough or I'm tweaking it wrong. (which I don't think I am) The only thing it's pulling out is pee water. I do get good foam but it's always pretty white. No chunky gunk. Also it says it has surface skimming capabilities, NOT in my tank it doesn't. Which was the biggest seller for me. I have a lot of surface protein.

The Reef Octo's worked really well for me as HOB units for years. There may be a small one that will work for you.

I love my CPR BakPak skimmer. Only the pump sits in the tank, so it wouldn't take up to much room in your tank.

I've been looking at the CPR skimmers and would one of them would be my replacement if I ever got rid of my slim skim.

Any chance of seeing how yours is set up and running? Could it be I've got to much flow in my tank?

i'm running 2 hydor evo 1400's in my tank so doubt ya got that beat, but i'll shoot ya pic tomorrow when lights come on. it sounds like a simple solution though, re aim your PH's so one is aimed at the surface.
