external horizontal overflow for 72'' acrylic

I just wanted to hear some opinions and ideas for an external horizontal overflow for a 72'' acrylic reef tank. I was thinking of cutting the back of the tank 1.5'' lower than the rest to create a waterfall effect and just build a decent horizontal box around that for the drains. Any ideas would be cool8)

 

I'm not sure as to what you are thinking about on the external overflow ?

 

So if I understand you want to build a coast to coast overflow. The entire back wall will be 1.5" lower. Then you would have a box mounted on the back of the tank that would house the overflow pipes to the sump.

This works very well and is done quite often. Some of the Larger tanks you find that type of Overflow not that it's only application is in big tanks. It give a real clean look and the display is not cluttered with overflow boxes

Yes, that is exactly want i am planning to do jason i plan on keeping alot of sps and i think this would be the most productive application. Once i have everything built i will update.
