I need a brainstorm here fellow reefers. I currently have a mag drive 1800 mounted externally for my main system pump. Look at the picture provided. There is a slight vibration that comes off it and runs into stand and through my wood floors. If my tank was on carpeting I think the vibration would be virtually unnoticable. I was thinking of putting a rubber pad under the pump, but I wanted to hear other possible ideas or ways others have solved this problem.

Oh yeah, I know some will say to submerse the mag drive in the sump, but I don't want to do that right now.

    Thanks,
    Sean

i'm pretty sure a rubber pad would work or maybe some styrofoam would do the trick. Or maybe just the succion cups that came with the pump if there were any that came with it. Just tossing ideas here... can you tell ;)

    Skennely,
First thing I would do is cut the zip ties holding down the pump. See if that helps any. It will take pressure off the pump. Next, yes I would try and isolate the pump with some rubber pad. I am using a sleeping bag pad. The kind you use for camping. Actually I have it run under my entire sump also. This helps for skimmer vibration too. Last I would try and put a short piece of flexable pvc or vinal tubing on your pump output plumbing to help isolate the pump. Hope that helps.

szidlis beat me to it, add a section of vinyl tubing on both the input and output. It really does help isolate the pump.

Thanks everyone, I'll probably try the rubber mat first before I change any plumbing. I already have vinyle tubing on the input side.

I used a mouse pad when I ran my mag 9 external. Solved the vibration immediately.

Guys, I can't thank you enough. I tried the mouse pad idea and it worked beautifully. I can hardly tell the tank is running.

Karma to everyone for the suggestions.
