well the API kit for KH required 16 drops to turn to a green/yellow color where 17 was yellow.

According to the chart that means its around 17dKH!!!

Also, the API kit's calcium test requires 4-5 more drops to get the color to change which means its beyon 520PPM.

I am going to mix my own salt water and do a 25% water change and then test tomorrow. I wonder if the salt the LFS uses in their water sucks?

I'm wondering if your LFS even measures the amount of salt their using?? Geeezzzzz lol

FWIW I've been using the Redsea Pro kit for about 5-6 months now and have been more then pleased with the results. Sounds like you did get a bad kit though :(

I am wondering if I had an idiot moment.

I have to add quite a bit of water each day that is evaporated into the air. I just add more water from the LFS into it, I'll search for this but I wonder if the water is being evaporated into the air sans the salt and calcium and what not.

If that's what's going on then I'm just a moron, I changed out about 5 gallons of water tonight that was right at 1.025 and then i checked it about 1 hour later and it come down some but still around 1.027 range.

I think I should just add new unsalted RO water into the tank 1 cup of fresh water at a time until the level in the tank is at 1.025?

    Edit:

I confirmed that my thought was the case I was in such a haste doing other things and trying to figure out what I was doing wrong that the most obvious thing went out my mind.

Can anyone confirm if my method, 1 cup out (tank water) 1 cup in fresh water until i get to 1.025

    I am so embarrassed .

Ah so your salinity was high in the tank? That will definitely be a slow change prolly depending on how often you are doing it. The salinity isn't overly extremely high I would just start mixing your own water for water changes at the level you want and let it come down that high. What kind of life forms do you have in your tank?

Does anything looked stressed? Any sps have have burnt tips or anything? Do you carbon dose or anything? If not I would just do what I suggested.

I don't dose anything I have slowly added 1 or 1 1/2 cups of fresh ro water without salt to the back of the tank and the salinity has gone downwards.

Now that I have gotten it closer down to normal I noticed a couple of my corals are open at night where before they weren't.

I fed my bubble tip tonight but he insists on being at the very top corner of my tank.....
