    No it wont. You will need a culture of pods to get you started though.

    iv been trying sevral attempts and failing, here are some of the mistakes i made;

    used live rock in the tank where the copepods were
    over fed
    2 much water movement
    did not use an air pump

    now live rock is a double cutting edge, cus though it provides a small filter there might be other predators that can may feed on the copepod population (correct me if im wrong)

    over feeding makes the water poison not to mention unsmellable

    copepods are not fan of fast water movments

    the tank needs air as the "heavy" feeding tends to cut air.

    so now this is what iv done and so far its kinda working.

    set up a 20 l tank (for those who have been following my threads a bit it will probably be converted to a sump soon) inside there is a heater a blue sponge and a tube leading from an air pump.
    the air pump is probably the most important element as it not only provides an O2 source but also creates a light water movement that helps the farming. what you want to do is have the water of your tank always a greenish color with phytoplankton. there are several opinions iv read about the density of the green but i prefer underfeeding that over feeding. but again im a noob at this, iv asked left and right read lots of articles and just cant seem to get my shnitz started.

    with my current set up however i have noticed at night sevral fat females and their eggs swimming near the surface of the water i can only hope that its working.

    whatever the case i will closely follow this thread as any tip is a good tip to improve my technique.

    Oh and one last thing if i turn this tank into a sump i will transfer the farm into a large cylinder as apparently depth and hight is better than width....why?...heck i don't know but this is what iv read.

    i have a rubbermade 20g tub behind my couch that i have been letting sit for about 3weeks now, i think its time to check it! i originally made the setup to grow pods since my wrasse was eating everything in site. after one day of cleaning my tank, i rinsed off all my sponges, some macro algae, and my hydrometer in the old water, hopefully "rinsing" any pods off and into the buckets, then poured the buckets in a tub and let airate for a few weeks, i'll give it a check tonight after school and see what i find, otherwise if its any more trouble - it aint worf mahh time!!! haha
