How do Favias grow? I've looked it up and read about it, but it still kind of confuses me...

My Favia has something hanging off the side of it that is made up of the same colors as the large coral, but is hanging....like a giant wad of snot. Sorry, gross - but the best analogy!

Does that sound like new growth?

Thats what my australomussa did when it started dropping new ones... Not sure if its the same for a favia. but similiar situations for other soft leather corals.

Looked like hanging snot? Ok, good to know.

I was like "Ahhh what is that?" When I saw it. Thought the coral was melting or something. LOL When I looked up how they grow I didn't see anything like that.

Yep pretty close!! Hanging like that, and then at the end is a blob that looks like a baby favia.

Sounds like the end was broken. Normal growth is through division.

It definitely isn't broken....It's really hard to describe. But I know it was not broken!

I'll have to see if I can get a picture.

If it over a cliff like edge then it might do something like that. Could be polyp bailout, too. Although I don't know why since all is well.
