Hello I was wondering if anyone knows the Genus & Species of this coral. It's about 3" in diameter. Thanks

    ID'ing Favia's are tough, beyond saying "It's a favia".

    My best guess: Favia fragum

I do agree they're difficult. I figure someone has seen this before. Goniastrea can to mind also.

I was starting to think that but it has multiple mouths within a cell. Do acanthastrea have that?

It's not an acan; ignore the guy trying to get into the market place...

Definitely not goniastrea. Polyps are not deep enough and are too irregular.

This isn't an acan, for sure. Those polyps are way too irregular; acans are basically all circles, not ovals. I don't think it's a goniastrea either.

I'm going to go with a favia fagrum as well.

Hah, good call on that one. Post #51 of his: For Sale.

Here's a normal shot and then at dusk(also does it during feeding).

Those shots make it look much more like a goniastrea than the other one. Mine pretty nuch looked exactly like that. So I'm going to go with Goniastrea (almost always paulensis)

Yes it does look like Goniastrea palauensis. Looking at prices on DiversDen I got a pretty good deal.
