I'm using the API kit. It doesn't test low enough for me plus the color I get really doesn't match any of the colors precisely. I want to upgrade to a more advanced test that measures low range accurately. I've read a lot of reviews and neither of the tests, including Salifert's, seem to be a slam dunk. What do you 3reefers recommend and why?

I went through the same thing as you.. There is no good test kit that measures low enough. Everyone told me to get a Hanna Photometer. Even that $200 piece of equipment isn't 100% accurate. Sad isn't it?

So now I just run a lot of GFO and not worry about my phosphates since my SPS are doing great (beautiful color). I haven't seen algea in years. I haven't tested in a long time..

I mostly pay attention to the amount of light brown algea that builds up on my glass. If it takes less then a week to build up to become noticable, I replace my GFO..

Not really scientific or exact, but it works.. lol

That's real quick, I usually do it every 2 months or so.

As for a test kit, I had used API, but now I just bought a Salifert for the same reason you were stating. I used it and was very happy. It was easy and fast, and more sensitive.
