The brown and white striped is a hawaiian feather duster and will feed off the things in the water column if you do reg WC's....I dose my tank daILY WITH 3 DIFFERENT CULTURES OF LIVE PHYTO (ooops caps)....You can use kent's if you feel the need....live is better....when you feed the coral's you feed the duster or dont it will live off just plain ole salt water...good luck...

    hey steve!
how are ya? my duster has lost its crown and got out of its tube half-way through. and just this afternoon i found a lot of sticky slime that looked like spider's web filled with tiny particles. after running my power head it turned to something that looks like web when collected.

I have the same feather duster. But never expericed that yet. Only had it for 4 months or so. I also read that they starve to death in 6-8 months, is that true?

vermetid snail - Google Image Search

    Hi Kyaness

my guess is that some of those small fan worms tubes are occupied by vermatid snails as they do send out the sticky filaments to catch food and then reel them back in to eat what they have caught - check out the google images above , Im sure you will see something similar to what you are experiencing
