my very large feather duster shed its crown today. i am going to do a parameter check after i eat. did dose for magnesium for the first time yesterday. other feather dusters look fine. Brain and Frogspawn look fine (brain may be a little on the "extended" side) .

will it re-attach?? should i pull it out?? any other ideas??

    ill update with numbers later

It should regrow the feathers. Takes a couple of weeks for them to come back to their previous size.

ok, so the tube is the living part?? not the feathers??? the top of the tube is still cinched shut.

should i remove the old crown?? or leave it for the crabs

    both OK wfb2270

feather dusters shed their crowns for a number of reasons
1 - when they spawn so they dont consume own offspring
2 - when the crown gets damaged and thus not an effective net
3 - when pestered by fish, crabs etc

the worm is still alive in the tube most of the time
and a short stubby crown grows and then develops into the full size version

Agree with Steve. I've lost a crown on my coco and it came back bigger and better.

IME they tend to drop their crowns pretty regularly, say once every 4 months, maybe less

I have had mine for two years and its only dropped its crown 1 time 2 months ago. It grows back pretty quick and was about the same size as the old one. If the crown is out of the tube I would pull it out of the tank but I dont think I would try to pull it out of the worms tube.

I could be miscalculating as well. I used to have so many dusters (in multiple tanks) that I couldn't keep track of which one dropped it's crown and when.::)
