I purchased a Pink Feather duster last Sunday. It wasn't attached to any rodk or anything. It was at the LFS in some sand. I asked what I should do when I got it home. I was told where the "head" was and to bury the "tail" under some sand. That is what I did. I was also told I would know it if it died becuase it would leak out black stuff. Well no black from it but it also hasn't come out and it is just laying on the sandbed. Should I do something different? I tried perching it against a rock but it just fell over. Is it possible still alive? How do I know? Any advise? Tanks in advance!

Is this what they call a "coco" worm ?... the "head of feathers" look conical ?

Lets have a pic of the tube , etc ?

lol Christy. As for the cocoa worm question.....no it's not a coco worm. I would never set a friend of mine up for failure like that. I think it either got stressed and lost it's plume (will grow back) or it's being honory.

It came out of the sand one time, the whole thing, and I put it back under. I also moved it when I moved my rocks. But it has never looked different than this. It isn't the greatest picture. It isn't under the bright lights and isn't in heavy flow!:-/

you know what, I would kinda just tuck it in between a couple of rocks christy and leave it. Don't try to bury it anymore. See what happens.

Ok Daniel as long as you are here.....the polyps you gave me with the black sponge. Well the black sponge is growing. What do you suggest I do with it? Should I waste the polyps around it and just get rid of it? Or try to cut around it!?

Ok, so not a coco worm , but a run of the mill feather duster , ok.
If it "spit" it's feather/plume then that means most likely was stressed by handling to much. ( and/or poor water parameters CAN play a factor here ).

Stop moving it round, if the worm is still alive and in it's tube still and the water has good parameters then it "should" grow another head/plume.

either=) You can get it off with a razor but put on gloves and safety glasses to keep the zoa juice out of your eyes and off ur hands. Don't let Zoe be anywhere near while you are doing this.
