    Help,

I got home today from work and when I checked on my tank I found that one of my feather dusters had lost his top. The feather part is on the sand. Does this mean it died?

No not necessarily , they will drop there tops if there upset. Its usually a sign there is something wrong with water params, or something has been picking at it. I have been reading up on them, as I want to get one, and many care sheets make mention of dropping there tops or leaving there tubes, when there is a problem.

they also drop thier feathers if they spawn, so they dont consume their own off spring

they will shed feathers is they get damaged, crimped etc

if they are not getting enough food, they assume net has problems and drop feathers in order to grow new set.
