chances are that the feather duster was dead before the snail got there.

If the feather duster is in fact dead, I agree. I've never seen my astrea snails bother anything in my tank. But maybe you have a vicious one lol.

time will tell- he was most likely pretty messed up because the snails are fairly harmless

    Featherduster worm vs Astera snail

As patrick824 said time will tell. My tube worm has grown A new feather head to replace the old one. I still dont know why this happened. but I think Im going to keep It in my fuge. also going to move my cluster of small red featherdusters to the fuge as well. note that It took just over two mos. for the head to grow back. hope this can help someone else. we say that certain animals are reef safe. but their are allways exceptions to the rule. ;)

    crabs with red eyes.

I found two small crabs in my aquariums the last few days. the first came out of my live rock. the second came out of some chato that was recently purchased. the one that came out of the chato has red eyes. I do believe that someone in the past told me to watchout for those with red eyes. but I dont remember why. can anyone help?

When a tube worm is stressed, for example being moved to a new environment (new set of water parameters) or if there is inadequate food supply it will lose its feeding feathers. In most cases they will grow back as long as conditions stay the same and stressfree and there is enough food. It can take a few weeks for the feathers to grow back. When the worm leaves its tube then this is a sign it is dying. Hopefully it will just grow some more feathers.

    Good luck and K+
