I am going to target feed my Candy Cane, and possibly the torches too. I've read mixed things on this and was wondering the best thing to feed. I'll be using a turkey baster or eye dropper for each head.

I don't have access to live brine shrimp...would freeze dried be ok? And if so, what kind?

    Thanks

PS - I've read/seen the bottle top method, and would rather not do that right now...unless something sparks my interest;D

If the brine are enriched, otherwise they're pretty low on nutrition. Mysis or another high quality frozen food would be a better option, otherwise they may take a good quality pellet food too.
You may have trouble feeding the torch. I've never had any luck feeding my Euphyllia.

I found some frozen mysis shrimp from my LFS (didn't think they had it there) and used it today. The torch ate it right up! Will hit the candy cane when the lights go out!

Yeah, my hammer, torch, candy cane, and all my softies love frozen mysis. So do my emerald crabs, cleaner shrimp, peppermint shrimp, rusty angel, hippo tang, foxface, mandarin dragonet and my pink spotted watchman goby. Hmm, can't think of anything in my tank that doesn't LOL.

I use the cut 2-liter bottle top trick. cover coral. use a eyedropper/etc and I take frozed brine in a small tupperware with a litle saltwater and a little pythoplankton powder and mix together and sit for a few minutes. and slowly inject the food on there heads and sit back and relax.. once they eat or after 30-45 minutes, I do it again. after that I lift the bottle up slowly and now your fish have leftovers to clean up..

I cut up wild caught shrimp into very small pieces and hand feed every head of my candy canes, duncans, rics, brain, dendros, and sun corals. The whole process takes about 1 hour every other night, but the growth is phenominal. I recently fragged off half of my candy cane and took it to the lfs for credit, I still have 40 heads left. It only took a little over a year and 4 months to go from 3 heads to over 80. The thing was nearly the size of a basketball. I have lots of time though, I dont think this method is for everyone. I also use some mysis occasionally, or food that I make up and freeze until needed.

WOW! I think I might give it a whirl! Raw or cooked shrimp?

Oh, and I've been feeding the Candy Cane at night...will it eat while the lights are on?

wild caught raw shrimp. be sure to check the package. I looked into it and the farm raised shrimp are generally done so in freshwater so you dont want to use them. Candy canes will feed during the day if they sense there is food in the water. It took a while before mine would feed during the day but now anytime I put any food in the water they open up really quick. I generally feed during the evening so my tang and goby dont try to take everyones food. Both of them are pigs.
