At the end of june/beginning of july, my husband and I are going out of town for about a week. I have automatic feeders for all our tanks which have worked in the past. I am worried about what to do with my jawfish. I target feed him formula one cut up really small and sometimes mysis shrimp with one of those long turkey baster things. I have two ocellaris clowns in the tank that really love flakes so putting flakes in a auto feeder for them will be fine. We haven't left for this long since having this tank with the jawfish and clownfish. He is about 3.5" long. I'm just curious what other people with jawfish or any type of fish with the same eating habits or need to be target fed, have done when they leave for a week or so. I have read that people have fed their fish a lot right before leaving on vacation and they have been fine without food for 5 days but I am not sure about this little guy. We also don't have anyone we can trust to come and feed him while we are gone. Thanks in advance for any help!

Maybe start the auto feeder while your still home and watch him to see if he eats.

I leave every week and my jawfish is just fine. I have never target fed him. I don't leave for a full week though. I would get someone to check it at least once.

They all would honestly probably be fine with a week. But I would have someone come by half way through the week and do a top off and feed. Auto feeders are not to be trusted IMHO.

Having someone come over while we are gone is not an option.

I have a blue spotted jawfish that will eat anything that goes in the tank. Sometimes he eats a piece of stray seaweed. Interesting fish he won't eat out of my hand be he likes to get really close when I'm moving stuff around in the tank.. Like 2-4 inches from my hand with this whatya do'in look on his face.
My autofeeder and topoff can handle a full week but It would make me feel better having the tank checked up on incase something weird happened. But to answer the question he eats flakes when i'm gone. Not sure if he eats pods but there's plenty in there.
