So I just got a yellow tail damsel as my first fish about 2 days ago, and put him in my quarrantine tank. Since then, it hasn't really eaten anything. It just spends all its time hiding in the piece of PVC tubing in the tank, and when I add the flakes to the tank he doesn't swim up to get them. I have also tried adding a wafer that sinks to the bottom of the tank, but he doesn't eat it. I am worried that all this uneaten food will pollute the tank, but I also worry about him not eating. Any advice?

    yellow tail damsel
he will eat when he gets hungry enough IME

feed frozen Mysis and even brine - it will more closely match the food he is used to eating and more likely to trigger a feed reaction
also add a drop of garlic - scent can often provoke a feed reaction even when the food stuffs are not what the fish is naturally used to eating.

it'll eat. Damsels are evil, not stupid. Also make sure that uneaten food is removed.

In case you come back to your thread here JJK, I have an airstone in my QT for extra water movement, I turn that off when feeding and use Cyclo-peze frozen, some flake I add a few flakes at a time about mid tank and I hold it in my fingers a while before I let it drift towards fish to get them used to my hand being there during feeding time. I also use garlic to soak Formula 2 and flake, then I use a turkey baster to suck out uneaten food. Takes a couple days for mine to eat, but by three weeks out, they eat directly from my hand. I QT four weeks to give them lots of fatten up time.
