I picked up a small pack of rods original blend. I have 4 fish with no corals at this point. What would be the best way of feeding this? How do you recommend I that? Thanks.

Is it the small size frozen pack? If so, break off some and put it in a small container (i use a shot glass,;D) and a tiny splash of your tanks water in it and let sit for several minutes to thaw.

I used to just throw this concoction in, but now I strain out the liquid and just drop the chunks of thawed food into the tank. I feel its a cleaner way to feed frozen food letting the dirty liquid drain off into the sink and feeding what the fish will actually be able to ingest.

From my understanding Rod's is pure with no filler at all...are you meaning the water you put it to thaw it will be dirty?

It isn't "dirty" or filler, per se, but it is fish juice, crustacean juice, etc from the solids and from being frozen. Freezing stuff will rupture some of the cells in the stuff and the water(cell juice) separates out.

The liquid and stuff in it will feed filter feeder corals and such, but since you don't have any that will just add to the bio load since the fish can't process it.

Do you thaw it first or just throw it in the tank?

I thaw a small piece in a tiny cup with tank water and since my fish are smaller, I mash it up a little with my fingers, then pour a little at a time so it all doesn't get swept out through my overflow. Since I have many corals, I do not dump out any of the water, there is a lot of good stuff in there for the filter feeders.
