So, i got a very nice yellow sun coral. It's huge, easily 5" x 5" with 30+ polyps. 15 or so of the polyps are HUGE, i mean as wide as a penny.

    1) How oftne should i feed it? I got different info from different sources. Some said daily, some said 2..3 times a week.

I head people say sun coral can go through 2..3 cubes of mysis in one feeding. He was not kidding! I fed it last night, and would target feed nice big chunks of mysis to each polyp, they'd eat it and open back up 5 mins later wanting more! Unreal!

    2) So the question, do you feed each polyp once or several times?

    and finally

    3) Smaller polyps are very hard to feed. They do not seem to grab food as good as bigger ones. Any tricks there?

    Thanks.

That's about how much I used to feed mine daily before I gave it away. 2 cubes, just for it. I fed each polyp at least once, mostly twice, and possibly more if there was any mysis left over. The coral should be in a low flow area where it makes it easy to feed. I wouldn't worry about heads so small they don't have a vivid coloration yet.

Man I went and looked at what they are and they are really sweet but look like they are a lot of work. I read you have to feed every head or algae will attack the dying skeleton. Also there needs to be other trace elements added. Good luck

I wouldn't worry about other trace elements either. Lots of places say stuff like that, but it's really bogus. LiveAquaria says that nearly every coral requires random stuff you can't really test for. Just do water changes regularly, and there should be no problem with those random traces.

You can feed it daily at a set time and after a few days it will automatically come out. I used a 1/2 large water bottle (cut the bottom off) and set it over it. I feed my black sun coral squid, mysis and cyclops.

I also sold my yellow due to the extra food needed.

Great coral - lots of work tho :)

i would feed it daily to ensure good health. and make sure you feed every polyp because they are separate so you could have some thriving while others you miss dying on you.

    +1.

You need to find a balance between adequate feeding and maintaining water quality. And I would not spend too much time trying to feed each individual head every feeding. That is way the bottle method is good, more food available for a longer period, and less waste.

Ah, I was thinking to use a turkey baster. That's what I did. No waste that way, as you can control every individual shrimp for the heads. Every once in a while when I messed up with it and squeezed while putting it in the tank or moving it around, the banggai cardinal would eat up the mysis, as they're really active at night.

Great advice. Thank you all. I'll try the bottle method sometime.
