1.)When do you feed your tank? morning and afternoon

2.)What do you feed your tank (including brand name?) New life spectrum pellets: both thera+A and finicky fish formulas, Rod's food occasionally and cyclops for the corals 2 times a week.

3.)How much do you feed your tank at each feeding? A couple pinches of NLS and I shave off some Rod's when I do that one.

4.)How do you prepare what you are feeding? Pellets are self explanatory... The Rod's I take some tank water in a measuring cup and I thaw the food and throw it in.

5.)How do you feed (feed tube, throw it on top, etc?)? Just throw it in the tank

6.)What is the primary reason you feed in the way you do? (less feeding for nitrate control, a certain food for a certain coral, or feeding more for a certain fish species, etc) Pellets= less phosphate and good nutrition. Rod's is more of a treat.

7.)Anything special you have learned about feeding or a food recipe you use.
NLS pellets make the fish so bright in color and really fill them out!

8.)Basic Tank information: Tank size in gallons and heavy, medium, or light fish population? 125 gallons, light fish population right now as I am working on stock.

1.)When do you feed your tank?
I know the fish are at their hungriest in the morning when they wake so about 30 minutes after the actinics come on and I see everyone coming to their feeding area of the tank like a pack of wild dogs, and again before the halides go off
2.)What do you feed your tank (including brand name?)
each morning I rotate between Extreme 1.5 mm pellets, and Ocean Nutriton prime reef flakes, then every other day I rotate afternoon feeding with Rod's original, and PE mysis soaked in Selcon, plus Nori on a clip every 2 days, also keep frags of Red Dragon's breath macro algae that my tang, angel cannot resist mowing down, which I have to grow in my frag tank or they would eat it all up,for coral I throw in some freeze dried cyclopeeze 1nce a week
3.)How much do you feed your tank at each feeding?
just a pinch of the morning feedings, and a cube of the mysis, cube size of rod's
4.)How do you prepare what you are feeding?
Soak it in selcon, while thawing in tank water I do not strain and no phos/nitrate issues
5.)How do you feed (feed tube, throw it on top, etc?)?
just have an old aplesauce cup I soak it in then dump it over 30 mins or so a little at a time
6.)What is the primary reason you feed in the way you do? (less feeding for nitrate control, a certain food for a certain coral, or feeding more for a certain fish species, etc) Just to insure everyone is eating what they like

7.)Anything special you have learned about feeding or a food recipe you use.
I wish, but I dont think anyone has feeding down to a science every single person has their own ( this is a must for feeding healthy) regimen
8.)Basic Tank information: Tank size in gallons and heavy, medium, or light fish population? 120 gal with 39 gal sump/refuge medium fish/coral load

150 gallon display, 55 gallon sump, 175 total water volume, medium bio load(7 large sized fish), big skimmer, bio pellets, and bi weekly waterchanges(30%), lots of flow, mixed reef....

as you can see i like to feed my tank...but everyone reading this make sure you feed small amounts...for example i have only fed my tank as of now just a pinch of flakes, in a couple hours right before the lights go out i will feed the fish tank heavily..but the barebottom and the flow i have keeps the food nicely suspeneded for a long time...my controller kills the skimmer and return pump for 20 minutes when i feed, powerheads are still on in the tank tho...

Daily bump. Need more people to answer and I will condense the results with some other information! Help me! Fill it out! If you don't know your food brand, not a big deal.

1.)When do you feed your tank? - Usually at night. Around 9 before lights out.

2.)What do you feed your tank (brand name if you know it?) - I feed tetracolor marine flakes and Ocean Nutrition formula 2 flakes. Frozen mysis and bloodworms on occassion. I soak my food in Zoe once or twice a week.

3.)How much do you feed your tank at each feeding? - A pinch or two for the fish. I feed my corals pretty much as much as they will take.

4.)How do you prepare what you are feeding? - Soak in Zoe sometimes, otherwise just thaw if needed then put in the tank.

5.)How do you feed (feed tube, throw it on top, etc?)? - Throw it on top.

6.)What is the primary reason you feed in the way you do? (less feeding for nitrate control, a certain food for a certain coral, or feeding more for a certain fish species, etc) - It allows for flexability with my schedule. I can feed what I want when I want.

7.)Anything special you have learned about feeding or a food recipe you use. - Zoe, a Kent foodsoak really brings out fishes colors and corals go nuts over it. Switching up between flakes and frozen makes everyone happy.

8.)Basic Tank information: Tank size in gallons and heavy, medium, or light fish population? - 14 Gallon biocube. Medium-Low fishstock (only a small damsel and firefish) But a MASSIVE coral load for a small tank. Over 25 different species. I also do about a 50 % water change every week.

1.)When do you feed your tank?
I feed about 5x a week, skipping a day here and there.

2.)What do you feed your tank (brand name if you know it?)
PE frozen Mysis, Spirulina flakes or Formula 2 flakes. I rotate between the three. The corals get frozen Cyclopeeze in the FreezerBar style.

3.)How much do you feed your tank at each feeding?
I was always taught to consider a fishes stomach to be about the size of its eyeballs and to feed accordingly. I feed sparingly is the point.

4.)How do you prepare what you are feeding?
No special preparation other than I buy the frozen mysis in 16 oz or larger flats so I smash it up a little first.

5.)How do you feed (feed tube, throw it on top, etc?)?
I just toss it in a medium flow area so its spreads out for all to eat even the timid fish.

6.)What is the primary reason you feed in the way you do? (less feeding for nitrate control, a certain food for a certain coral, or feeding more for a certain fish species, etc)
I try to keep the nutruients down in my tanks and maintain deep sand beds in both so do not want detritus build up. I have had many fish live past 13 years and I still have corals and a Sebae anemone from 1990 and before and doing well so my method works well for me.

7.)Anything special you have learned about feeding or a food recipe you use.
Nope other than feed sparingly, especially in a small system so you don't pollute the tank or drive nitrates and phosphates up.

8.)Basic Tank information: Tank size in gallons and heavy, medium, or light fish population?
8 year old 100G mixed reef w/ 5-6" 330lb Southdown DSB and medium fish stocking. 20+ year old 16G nano with 3+" DSB, softies and LPS and 3 fish.

1.)When do you feed your tank?Every 2 days

2.)What do you feed your tank (brand name if you know it?)Cut up bits of shrimp, clam, oyster and squid; Ocean Nutrition Prime flake

3.)How much do you feed your tank at each feeding? A medium size pinch

4.)How do you prepare what you are feeding? Cut up fresh seafood into tiny pieces, flake just grind up a bit under the water

5.)How do you feed (feed tube, throw it on top, etc?)? Single piece of fresh food dropped in front of a Koralia and watch them chase it, flake I just swish in the water.

6.)What is the primary reason you feed in the way you do? (less feeding for nitrate control, a certain food for a certain coral, or feeding more for a certain fish species, etc) Just have always done it this way

7.)Anything special you have learned about feeding or a food recipe you use. It takes a long time to feed. I also feed by hand all the LPS that I have bits of the cut up sea food. When I am done feeding fish and corals it has taken about 2 hours.

8.)Basic Tank information: Tank size in gallons and heavy, medium, or light fish population? 100g tank with light-medium stocking.

1.)When do you feed your tank?

I feed my tank 30 - 60 minutes before lights out.

2.)What do you feed your tank (brand name if you know it?)

    Omega One Super Veggie Flakes.

3.)How much do you feed your tank at each feeding?

No more then my two damsel fish can eat in 3 minutes.

4.)How do you prepare what you are feeding?

I just throw it in the water.

5.)How do you feed (feed tube, throw it on top, etc?)?

Throw it on top of the water.

6.)What is the primary reason you feed in the way you do? (less feeding for nitrate control, a certain food for a certain coral, or feeding more for a certain fish species, etc)

I've only had a reef tank for about 4 months now, so this is just how I have been doing it lol.

7.)Anything special you have learned about feeding or a food recipe you use.

I have ordered different food to feed and food to feed my corals with, even though they don't really require it. I have mushrooms and zoas.

8.)Basic Tank information: Tank size in gallons and heavy, medium, or light fish population?

I have a 16 gallon bow front with two damsel fish in it. I guess that might be considered medium on the fish population for this tank.

Awesome! Keep them coming. I'm hoping to get a total of at least 50 answers for a decent sample size.

1.)When do you feed your tank?
I feed 3 times/day; I space the feedings out by an hour or more.

2.)What do you feed your tank (brand name if you know it?)
First feeding of the day: PE mysis, which has been soaked in Selcon
    Second feeding: Aquathrive Pellets
    Third feeding: Rods (Original)

3.)How much do you feed your tank at each feeding?
Small amounts. With the frozen foods, around 1/2-3/4 of a cube at each feeding (as a relative comparison). As for the pellets, just a small pinch, probably around 15-20 pellets total.

4.)How do you prepare what you are feeding?
PE Mysis: I thaw out about 4 cubes worth at a time in RODI. I then use a stainless steel tea bag strainer and rinse it. I place it into a small plastic cup and add .5-.75ml of Selcon and let it soak at least overnight. I then use this prepared amount over the next 3-4 days before I need to thaw out more. I keep it refrigerated in the meantime (of course). I never keep a thawed amount longer than 5 days in the fridge.

Rods: I simply break off an amount I know I will use in the next 3-4 days and keep in a separate cup in the fridge, similar to the above. I do not rinse or do anything special to it.

    Pellets are self explanatory.

5.)How do you feed (feed tube, throw it on top, etc?)?
I turn the Vortechs to feed mode and with a plastic spoon I add a small amount to the tank, about half what I plan to feed at that particular feeding. I then wait until the fish have nabbed most or all of that portion, then I place about the same amount in the tank again, totaling about 1/2 cube for frozen feedings, or 15-20 pellets.

6.)What is the primary reason you feed in the way you do? (less feeding for nitrate control, a certain food for a certain coral, or feeding more for a certain fish species, etc)
I feed often because I keep so many wrasses. I feed in the manner I do to minimize any uneaten food from entering the tank. So yes, the methodology is about nitrate control.

7.)Anything special you have learned about feeding or a food recipe you use.
Always rinse your frozen foods (unless it's something pre-rinsed, like Rods).

8.)Basic Tank information: Tank size in gallons and heavy, medium, or light fish population?
125gal deep reef tank with about 120gal of total system volume. Medium-Heavy fish load.
