Sorry, meant to fill this out and never got to it. Here you go...

1.)When do you feed your tank?

Ehiem timer 3 times per day, 2-4 manual feedings morning/night

2.)What do you feed your tank (brand name if you know it?)

I feed a lot of cyclop-eez, but other than that, I vary quite a bit. No specific brand, but try to mix foods as much as possible. Some nutrafin and other sinking pellets. Some frozen "Formula" foods. Lots of chopped up fresh foods, mixed together. Some freezdried foods.

3.)How much do you feed your tank at each feeding?

Ehiem feeder 3rd setting open, 2 turns. Manual feedings vary. I have two displays and feed the fish in each once per night, and then target feed some corals, rotating which corals different days. The two manual feedings are probably equivalent to ½ cube of frozen food, although, may be a mix of frozen and other foods.

4.)How do you prepare what you are feeding?

Usually soak in water and soak, at least overnight in selcon. I fill a few small glasses every few days and leave in the fridge.

5.)How do you feed (feed tube, throw it on top, etc?)?

Squirt with turkey baster. If feeding the fish I shoot it at a pump, so it goes everywhere quickly (I also do this as it feeds many filter-feeding corals at the same time). If spot feeding, then again turkey baster, but at the organism. Sometimes I will place a piece of food on an organism with my fingers, such as an anemone, or some LPS corals.

6.)What is the primary reason you feed in the way you do? (less feeding for nitrate control, a certain food for a certain coral, or feeding more for a certain fish species, etc)

I feed often because most organisms do better with more feedings. It is easier for them to digest, less stressful and gives then a constant energy source, not brief bursts. More feedings also helps control nitrates. Any food that settles will become a source of nitrates. I also keep my nutrient levels extremely low and filter heavily. Without a constant input of food, my corals start to bleach and die from nutrient starvation.

7.)Anything special you have learned about feeding or a food recipe you use.

With too little food I always battled algae problems. Feeding the correct amount to keep everything healthy, but, at the same time, avoiding waste. For example, by spreading out the feedings and filtering more, has produced much better results. Especially if ensuring everyone is getting the proper nutrients with a mix of foods. And by everyone, I mean everything from the fish to the corals, to the snails, to the pods, to the worms, bacteria etc...

8.)Basic Tank information: Tank size in gallons and heavy, medium, or light fish population?

    93g main display
    29g 2nd display
    40g sump
    10 fish
approx 25 SPS species of SPS corals
    20+ species of LPS corals
various soft corals corallimorphs, ricordeas, leathers, zoanthids palythoas
    a RBTA and 2 Maxi-Mini anemones

Every person in this hobby, whether new or old to the hobby; keeping a reef or fish only, you have to answer the questions about feeding. Let's make this a place to share our feeding habits and logic behind what, when, how, and how much.
(try to keep the format and add your answers)

1.)When do you feed your tank?

2.)What do you feed your tank (brand name if you know it?)

3.)How much do you feed your tank at each feeding?

4.)How do you prepare what you are feeding?

5.)How do you feed (feed tube, throw it on top, etc?)?

6.)What is the primary reason you feed in the way you do? (less feeding for nitrate control, a certain food for a certain coral, or feeding more for a certain fish species, etc)

7.)Anything special you have learned about feeding or a food recipe you use.

8.)Basic Tank information: Tank size in gallons and heavy, medium, or light fish population?

1.)When do you feed your tank? Once in the morning before I go to work and usually a small amount in the evening

2.)What do you feed your tank (brand name if you know it?) My favorite is Rods Herbivore blend (by far). I also have Spirulina cubes, Formula 2, Rods standard, Prawn Roe and Mysis. For corals I have frozen San Francisco Bay Reef plankton cubes and use mixture of other liquids (phytoplankton, etc.)

3.)How much do you feed your tank at each feeding? I will feed roughly a quarter-sized piece of rods or a cube of one of the others plus a small amount of Rods. For corals I make about a 1/4 cup mixture of tank water, vitamins, liquid/frozen foods, amino acids, etc. and target feed.

4.)How do you prepare what you are feeding? If I have time I soak it in a small amount of tank water, Brightwell Vitamarin-M, Vitamin C and Amino Acids. If not I feed by hand, letting it mush up between my fingers in the tank. The latter has proven to be dangerous with my always hungry, exceptionally quick and very bold female Blue Throat Trigger. The male is far more timid.

5.)How do you feed (feed tube, throw it on top, etc?)? See above for fish. For corals I target feed.

6.)What is the primary reason you feed in the way you do? (less feeding for nitrate control, a certain food for a certain coral, or feeding more for a certain fish species, etc) I feed a lot to keep the fish healthy. My protein skimmer lets me do so. A fat fish is a happy fish is a healthy fish.

7.)Anything special you have learned about feeding or a food recipe you use. The more stuff the better. Variety is key.

8.)Basic Tank information: Tank size in gallons and heavy, medium, or light fish population? Twin 175 gallon reef tanks. Medium fish population (two medium triggers, two large tangs, three medium and one small angel, miscellaneous other fish).

1.)When do you feed your tank? Usually when I return home from work

2.)What do you feed your tank (brand name if you know it?) Mysis, Cyclops, Rods, Formula Two Flake, Formula One Pellet, Reefcleaners Filter Feeder Formula(corals)

3.)How much do you feed your tank at each feeding? About a pinch or so for the dry and a shaving of the frozen.

4.)How do you prepare what you are feeding? The frozen I shave off a bit from the cube and soak it in Kent Extreme Garlic and Brightwell AminOmega. The Filter Feeder Formula I soke in tank water.

5.)How do you feed (feed tube, throw it on top, etc?)? I set Vortech to feed as well as Korallia Wavemaker to feed, then drop in tank. For Corals I target feed with a syringe.

6.)What is the primary reason you feed in the way you do? (less feeding for nitrate control, a certain food for a certain coral, or feeding more for a certain fish species, etc) No particular reason, just the way I have been.

7.)Anything special you have learned about feeding or a food recipe you use. One thing I need to start doing is rinsing the frozen food.

8.)Basic Tank information: Tank size in gallons and heavy, medium, or light fish population? 40B with B/W Clown, Blue Green Chromi, Lawnmower Blenny, Diamond Watchman Goby

I'm amazed that people thaw frozen food before feeding!

I just break a chunk off, cut it into small pieces with a cerrated butter knife, and dump it in.

    They woof it right down!!
