Anyone out there have any ideas for part time work to supplement this addicting hobby?

This hobby gets addicting. The further you get into it the more you want :-/

Finding side money may keep the wife happy too...

    Any ideas?

Sell old stuff, toys, other hobby stuff on ebay. Sell paintings or other art.

do you understand enough about the hobby to do service work? My husband runs a website for a friend of ours (he's kind of out of the hobby right now - did own a LFS for a bit) and he gets emails all the time from people wanting someone to set up and service aquariums.....just a thought....

Frag tank :) It will at least help pay for new corals, or allow you to trade frags.

I know a few guys who do that after work & they make more servicing tanks than at their job. But we live in a very populated area with lots of tanks.

    I hear ya.
I've been neglecting my tank as it is by working more. 12 hour minimum work days are not only tuff but sometimes the entire light cycle happens before I get home! Depressing!

Great solution. I used to grow xenia on my fuge and was able to harvest about 20 larger stalks/month to a LFS. Back then they we giving me $10 per frag and they would turn around and sell them for $20-30. The extra $200/month came in handy back then. Then I found that selling chalice and SPS frags was so much more lucrative. Now I rarely sell at all. Too much work.

Good idea. However, I live in a development where my lawn is mowed by the HOA so I would have to go buy a mower.

I could sell old college books. I would probably cry knowing how much I spent for them and how little I could get for them now.

That's a good idea and down the road I would LOVE to do this! I actually wanted to open a saltwater store up in my hometown but my wife didn't like the idea. I'm new to the hobby and know a decent amount. I ask a lot of questions on here now because I don't want to mess up. I don't want to do a trial and error so I just ask...

If I had a basement I would be all over a frag tank! I thought about getting a small one for our 3rd bedroom but my wife wont approve of another fish tank. I found a great deal on craigslist but the idea got shot down

I did find some weekend work. My buddy owns a pressure washing business that washes semis. Talked to him today and he said he can use me asap. The money I make with him could fund a frag tank which then could fund new purchases for my main tank. I think I could get that one past the wife haha

I mentioned to my boss that I was getting a weekend job to fund my new addiction and he laughed and asked if he needed to give me a raise so I don't have to work weekends.

    Thanks for the ideas!!!
