I am trying to beat an algie bloom. I sem to be just battling and not winning. I have not found out much info on feeding. How much how often. I have fat fish but always seem to greet me at tank like a begging dog. The food is such a varity. The tang and wrasse and blenny and a few others get a small pinch in the morning. gone in about 5 min. I feed a thawed brine shrimp cube i/2 size to brain coral and anemones about every 5 days. Also a little phytoplankton about weekly for hammer coral and filter feeder corals. I also drop in a 1/2 inch piece of raw shrimp once a week for reef lobster otherwise I end up missing the most expensive fish. I guess they taste better.

how old is the tank? algea needs light and nitrates. what are the test resluts? do u feed the fish the whole amount in one shot? and let the food sit in the tank for 5 mins? the food should not last more than a couple mins, add a bit wait to the fish eat it all and then add some more. imo

I just doubled my cleanup crew. They're really making a dent in the green algae. I notice my one and only Fuzzy Chiton wipes the rocks clean everywhere he goes. Kind of afraid I'll run out of algae now.

9 months, I cut back light actinics on 11 hours and 2x250 mh on 8 hours, I feed all at once. I will put it in slowly now. About 2 min of feeding?

I just added more cleaner crew and had a crazy idea. I want this bryopsisalgie gone from tank, and lettuce nudi are only thing eating it what if you droped 60 or 70 into the tank. Could you not do this. Then when it is gone harvest them out and give them away

i take its a large tank if ur running 500w of mh. 8 hours is probably too much. what corals are in it? do u have a pic of the "problem"

if you have that much light and high nitrates, thats most likely ur problem. cut back on light and nitrates and the algea will starve itself.

    this is a fat fish.

what type of coral? i would first test the water and go from there. you would be more than fine the cut the MH down to six, set the atinics on a timer, come on an hour or a bit longer before the MH come on and run them for an our or so after the MH go off. but again first test the water.
