Just curious as to how many of you fellow reefers target feed your corals? Whether it be your aposymbiotic(non-photosynthetic) coral such as Tubastrea and Gorgonians and such or symbiotic coral(containing Zooxanthellae)?
Also, if you do target feed your coral, do you use saltwater to mix the frozen food or prepare it with fresh water before feeding?
Also, do you use a turkey baster, syringe type tool or a specialty type feeding instrument such as the one put out by Kent?

I love target feeding my brain. I could give him chunks of cocktail shrimp, mussels, normal fishfood, he will take anything!!!
I usually spot feed him just for fun, and my orange ricordias with small silversides or mysys with a turkey baster, and i use ro to defrost.

Lets see. I usually do a mix of target and mass feeding. For the mass feeding I use the bio-plankton and marine-plankton. I do, however, target feed some of my corals with those products such as the cup coral and zoos and such. For my sun coral and anemones and other LSP I usually target feed them mushed up Reef Prime frozen cubes. They seem very happy with their meals :)

I also mass feed the bio-plankton & Marine-plankton by adding some to the water used to thaw the frozen food that is being fed. I do not target feed the corals just the BTA & green brittle star get chuncks of prime reef.

    So far, so good????

I use a turkey baster to feed my corals, and a k-bob stick to feed my bta shrimp, and silver sides. I dose photplex every few weeks, but feed my corals zooplankton. My button polyps, yellow polyps, orange plate, candy cane, and bta will eat this stuff. Im not to sure how to target feed a shroom though, they dont make an effort to eat so I dont feed them. It comes in saltwater, so I just suck it up, and feed, lol. I cant find the web page right now, but I bought it on liveaquaria.com. It comes in a little cup, for like 1.99. And will feed alot of corals, alot of times, hehe. Good thread CR, alot of people dont know how to feed there corals!!

Do you have to feed your corals or is this just kinda like a treat for them...I was under the impression that they get their nutritional value from photosynthesis.

I got my fill of target feeding my children a coral is on its on if you have proper water flows in the aquarium it will get food . Now if you enjoy it then have at it but I never found the need or pleasure in it. Now when I was keeping the Dendro corals I made a tunnel or tube from ABS pipe and hide it in the rocks base plugged the back end with a cap and made a air lift tube and the front was open so could see and then a simple air pump and it was all they ever needed food from the water just like in the ocean shady low light and a steady feeding current works great for the sun corals also.

I use a turkey baster. I have been using a 2 liter water bottle to put over my sun coral which is very large so that I am sure to get all the little mouths fed and so that the cleaner shrimp cant steal all the mysist.
