I started yesterday, and the salinity is sitting at 1.010

Do I run carbon? and GFO like I have been and the skimmer?

Also should I be doing dips for the infected fish?

    Hi Jdameli

the skimmer wont be very effective in the lower SG , leave it on as it will help oygenate but wont be skimming much IMO

Carbon can stay, but would need to be removed if using meds

GFO - again no problem that can stay

but if your doing hypo in your DT rather than a seperate tank
you realise that you are going to lose all your pods etc as these are inverts and these will be affected exactly the same was larger more visible inverts would be
not the end of the world as these will build up again as more are introduced
but it does mean you will have lost 1 level of your CUC on a temporary basis at least

Yeah I know I'll lose my pods! It really sucks to but I want to avoid losing my 100 dollar tang too so I guess I'll just have to live with it.

I'll seed the tank with them after all this

Should I Be treating with meds Also ?

I believe its an either / or situation Jdameli

either hypo or copper - with no need to do both
in addition to pods, you will lose fan worms, tube worms, brittle stars, bristle worms etc etc

bacteria survives it I believe provided you dont make the changes to abruptly

maybe you could remove some of the live rock to the place you moved your inverts to, in order to have a source for re seeding the tank when the hypo is completed?

I did actually do that, I removed around 50lbs of rock and set back up my 72 gallon for inverts and corals.

Are there any good guides on doing hypo?

It is DEFINITELY either/or. Many treatments, including copper, are dangeous in hyposaline conditions.

    Leave it the same.

Other than salinity (obviously) the only difference you might need to make is adding more buffer than normal to keep pH stabilized. Less salinity means less of those buffers in the water.

ph has been good so far,

If it begins to drop use baking soda? I have never had any ph issues in the tank so I have never had to use buffers
