My skimmer cracked badly. We have a guy who does fiberglass at work. He fixed it for me wrapping the section in fiberglass. Question is, is there a time frame before I can put this back in my sump? Is the resin bad for fish? I'm pretty sure fiberglass is ok right?

Fiberglass is not reef safe. It will leach all sorts of bad stuff into your tank. The only way fiberglass is reef safe is if it is gel coated, or epoxy painted to keep the stuff from leaching out.

From what I've read in many other posts is that Epoxy resin is ok to use and polyester is not. Is this the way to go?

You must have read MY posts;)

Yes, epoxy resin IS ok, polyester is not. VOC's, or Volatile Organic Compounds are the nasties that leak from polyester resin.
