Yes, but feeds on much the same as "hair". Here is a list of fish that will eat it some may get too large for a 55 gal. but for what it's worth; One spot Fox face Rabbit fish (Siganus unimaculatus)
    Naso Tang (Naso lituratus)
    Zebrasoma sp.
    I would recommend the:
Zebrasoma desjardinii (Red Sea Sailfin) or the
    Zebrasoma xanthurum (Purple tang)

Bryopsis is not the same as hair algae and it doesn't need anything but light to feed on. Nothing eats it because it is toxic.

Nothing was totally killing the Bryopsis I tried everthing I could come up with from this site as well as the rest of the internet and every LFS I went into.. I had been fighing it for too long I had fish that ate it and died I would manually remove rock and scrub it to have it only come back later I installed a better skimmer I installed a fuge I installed a Phosphate reactor I tried the chemicals I had no other algae but the bryopsis. so I did what I thought would be the best ( although extreme) solution. My fish and a few of the frags I saved lived through the whole thing in the tank. I only have 1 Yellow Chromis and 1 Clown so they hung in tough and I have since started reintroducing rock that has dried and I am optomistic the tank will be better than ever .

There are several folks who posted in that 5 year old thread that state that the usual methods to treat hair algae have not worked for them so the article/link doesn't "dispel" anything. In fact, if you do a search for the word "bryopsis" on Reef Central, you'll see tons of more recent threads where many folks, including myself, indicate that the usual methods used to treat hair algae do nothing to get rid of bryopsis. You might even want to do a search for bryopsis here on 3Reef and see how difficult, if not impossible, it is to rid oneself of this stuff. Have you ever had it yourself? If not, I'd be more than happy to send you some of ours so you can see if you can kill it because we've been trying for over a year with no success.

Edit: Also, I have a foxface rabbit fish, a sailfin tang, convict tang, powder blue tang, and an algae eating blennie. We also had a scribbled rabbit fish and an orange spot rabbitfish. Guess which fish didn't eat the bryopsis. All of the above.

All i know is it's not anything like normal macro algae. I don't have a problem with any other type of algae except for this. I have done some extensive research and have found that some species of bryopsis may be treated by raising Mg, or reduced feeding, lighting ect. However, some forms of it are very difficult, if not impossible to combat using the normal tools and procedures. I would not be considering this if it wasn't a last resort, I am still looking at possibly using Ultra Algae x, if not for anything else to be a guinea pig and exhaust every last possibility. Hopefully I may find it works well and do a review of it.

The bryopisis people have a problem with is Bryopsis Plumosa. The "feather like/Fern like", it grows like a vine. Various things will kill it, but most of them will kill other things to. The people using Magnesium are using Kents Magnesium, there is something about that kind that kills its when maintainted at levels around 2000. High concentration of Iodine will kill it to, as I found out when dipping zoa's that had bryopsis on it(20 drops of lugos concetrate per quart of water).
