I have 2 Clownfish that i've had for a few months now, happy in my tank.

I got a Fiji Blue Devil Damselfish from the fish shop today. The guy in the store said that it wouldn't attack or kill my Clownfish but i'm not so sure since they can be quite aggressive.

I've not noticed it attacking either of my Clowns, but it's just setling in.

It's also a bit bigger than both Clownfish.

Is it ok to keep them together? I really don't want my Clownfish to be killed, I really like them.

I have a blue damsel too and he's a jerk. He picks on my 2 domino damsels (who are supposed to be more aggressive then the blues) and tries taking food away from my lion and trigger. just my 2 cents. I'm sure they will be fine, just make sure your clowns are able to eat w/out the damsel interfering

Woke up this morning to find the Damselfish lying upside down dead at the bottom of the tank :(

It's not even been in there 24 hours...

Could be stressed? Perhaps went into stress and didn't recover? Seemed to be perfectly happy last night before I turned the lights off...

    Could be several Issues
    Did you acclimate him correctly?
If not he will deffinitly have a HUGE stress problem.
Maybe he was sick when you bought?
Maybe the clowns could have deffended their territory

I put the bag into the tank to equalize the temperature for about 15 mins, then added small amounts of tank water to the bag at 5 min intervals for about 20 mins then picked him out with the net and put him in the tank...then threw the bag water away.

Don't think he was sick, looked healthy.

I thought it might have been the clowns, but there were no marks on the Damselfish, not seen any attacking going on at all...

Yea... I usually acclimate my fish for 1-2 hours
I dont think 15mins gave him enough time to adjust to the parameters of your tank

Sorry for your loss. I'm betting that you didn't acclimate long enough. I always acclimate for an hour or more. Damsels/clowns are sensitive to acclimation.

Blue damsels are mean, mean, mean. May be a blessing in disguise. I cycled my first tank with them and had to get them out because they were attacking everything else that I added. Had to pull out all my rock because they are impossible to catch.

Blue damsels do look very nice though. If you want a damsel that isn't mean go with the blue-green chromis. Very docile, inexpesive, and has nice coloring that changes with light and viewing angels.

Yeah I can't say i'm too sad that it died, I was getting worried that it might kill my Clowns.

I think i'm going to buy a bigger tank now anyway, mine is only like 25 liters, going to get a 100 liter one tomorrow probably.

sorry for your loss... I float my fish for about a half hour. then put about a 1 inch slit in the bag below the water line and let it sit for another hour... I've always done it that way...

Surely it's not a good idea to let the water from the fish store flow into your tank? Must be full of bacteria that's not right for your tank since the store's tanks are usually overcrowded?

I never put any of the water from the bag in my tank.
