I was thinking of doing hawaiian black substrate for my 10g. I think black would look sweet!

Is this sand safe to use?

Or the other debate is fiji pink or bahama oolite?

Complete personal preference. I believe The Hawaiian black sand still comes with flecks of white in it. Fiji pink is nice, along with the oolite, just note that it does get blown around fairly easily. Only complaints I hear about the black is that it gets dirty really easily.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Fiji Pink, but I do not like a fine grain sand.

Hawaiian Black. An occasional light vacuuming of the surface (which one should do for nutrient control) will keep it sparkling clean. :D

I've got both Fiji pink and Hawaiian black in separate tanks. I prefer the Fiji pink as the Hawaiian black has a lot of white in it. If your good on maintenance then either should be fairly easy to keep clean.

Ok. Great. I was concerned about using the black due to negative things I was reading online regarding metal and ph buffering issues.

I would love to do something different as I have the fiji pink in one tank and I think the black looks really nice.

I am pretty good with maintenance, I vacuum every week:)

    Thanks everyone
