Fiji vs Carribean, a Rock question

I'm going to order some rock today, but not sure between the 2, giving color, life diversity and weight, which of these 2 rocks are better? I heard caribbean rock was much heavier, so buying say a 30lb box you would more than likely get a lot less rock.

 

I have mainly fiji but would have liked caribbean instead. It has more nooks/and nicer shapes. When I bought mine 6 years ago I knew nothing about LR. Also if you can get some Tonga branch their nice. Also don't look at the pretty colors of the LR on Liveaquaria. If you get one hair algae outbreak your coraline algae will die off anyway. You will have to correct the problem in order to start getting coraline to start growing again. Liveaquaria shows yellow,red and in general coraline algae is purple with possible other shades.

 

the place I was looking at for caribbean rock is a place called florida live rock, free shipping with a 30lb box, but looks heavy.

 

Will i ended up going with caribbean rock, as I looked over their rock before I made a decision, I took notice to the levels of rock you can purchase, Coralline Rock, Premium Coralline Rock and Decorative Rock, the Deco Rock being much more expensive, sure it's beautiful rock full of life, but wouldn't most the life on that rock die off anyways during curing or cycle? If so what your going to end up with is the cheaper rock in the long run anyways right, I think?

 

I just received my pukani rock from brs & this stuff is simply amazing compared to anything else ive seen. My $.02

 

I was looking for base rock, but didn't want to go with dry rock, looking for the color from the start, was that pukani rock already cured?

 

base and dry are the same thing man. ONLY live rock has "color" because its had time to soak in water and accumulate bacteria and algae to give it the color.

I only buy base rock because in 5 months your rock will be live rock. and idk bout you but i try and save money for other things for my tank. and buying base at 3 bux a pound vs lr ive seen as high as 10!!

Im not sure why this topic is so difficult to comprehend, i see it time and time again. (not insulting, just curious as why its hard)

There is rock thats been out of water, hence dry/base rock cuz its base rock nothing is on it.

Live rock is only live if it hasnt been dried out, its has bacteia and or algae.

We call live rock live because of the life it has on it, the rock itself isnt alive.

 

Thats a personal choice. Any rock you put in the tank will get color. Where its from is just what its structure consists of. The life may differ, if it was taken directly from that region of the world. but if it was dry its gonna color up on its own. its just what style suits you.

there is no better rock, every rock will achieve the same outcome.
