How long is an outbreak of film algae supposed to last? Nitrates and Phos are at zero. It has been about 5 days. I am decreasing the time my lights stay on in hopes that this will help. Also does water temp have anyting to do with a bloom?

I had an outbreak for a few weeks. I changed out my carbon and added Algeafix marine and it was gone in a matter of 4 days. I expect that the bloom is worse at a higher temp.

You can have nitrates at zero & still have an algae bloom/problem. It just means all the free nitrates are being eaten by the algae & in turn turned into more algae. It would help to give more specifics, you tank size, test levels, stock list, clean up crew, how much & how often you feed.

All of those combined can have cause & effects on contributing to an algae bloom.

Are you by chance still cycling your tank?

If so you do not need any lighting until you have corals in there. Until that time you are just feeding the algae with the light you're providing.
