That's a cool idea, but I already said I was picking up a surface skimming attachment :p Thanks though.

So, I got the skimming attachment. I tried connecting it to the skimmer but it unfortunately didn't work. The skimmer doesn't have enough suction I don't think, and the ends wouldn't connect properly. I ended up attaching it to my canister instead.. It's working great! At least this way the film is now gone and put back into the water colum where my skimmer can pick it out. Looks much better! And works fantastic!!! I love it! Thanks again Nana!!

I've no idea WTH the idea of using paper toweling came from to remove surface protein but it is the dumbest one ever and it doesn't work!!!

On another note :) good to hear Holly!! lol

I dont think I mentioned paper toweling anywhere, that just goes soggy, I said paper, I thought most people would have sheets of A4 around, laid on the surface and pulled along gently the surface film sticks to it and is easy to remove. Thinking about it the amount of time paper toweling would be in contact with the water would be minimal so that probably would work as well, by the way have you tried it?
And just for information any oily substance can be removed from a water surface with paper.

My bad, sorry :( Just saw the word paper and like many others who've suggested paper towels I went from there. Nothing personal towards you :)
I did NOT try paper. What is A4? Like from a note book you mean?

Hi Nana, no probs mate, A4 is what goes into most printers, the shiney stuff is no good. for this.
Your surface skimmer suggestion is a lot better anyway, I had 1 running for a good while on my discus tank and they work well.
I just thought that the paper method was better than Holly scooping the surface film off with a cup, if I had read the post properly as well I would have seen that she was buying 1 and would have kept my mouth shut!
Any way it's holiday time here for the Queens Jubilee and I'm off to Cyprus for a break next week, happy days, when I come back my new tank gets delivered even happier .
    Take care my friend.
