you just need to point your powerheads up towards the top of the water. The surface should be rippled across

Yep I agree with those who posted before me. I've had the same problem too. One time when I was having that issue after the powerheads had been in the same place and I didn't move them, it turned out to be the pump running my sump was failing and I wasn't having enough waterflow thru overflow box. Just keep that in mind too.

You said your phosphates were high. That is one issue with the algae. Good move on the ro that will help a bunch. Get the phosphates out and you will tell a big difference and more flow to the area or areas.

    Get some snails?

How long has your tank been set up, etc. Levels? More details please.

Aim a powerhead at the surface, it should be so turbulent it's hard to see through it. Get rid of the phosphates. Your problems should dwindle away after that :D

A surface skimmer looks like this
    [IMG]
It is usually used when you have a sump. Basically the water is siphoned out of the skimmer and down to your sump and then back up again. This way the water is always removed from the surface of the tank keeping it film free. Aiming the power heads at the surface help but don't eliminate it completely.

You can purchase a surface skimmer to work with an AquaC remora HOB protein skimmer. It works fairly well.
