    ok is there somewhere i can learn how to do this . Drill the holes make a sump and refug and such dont want my fish to die because i was ignorent to the fact you cant replace a overflow with Hob filters

    dude, on my gfs 10 gallon we have no surface skimmering mechanism, chemi pure in a aqua clear filter will clear it up in no time.

    That film on surface is normal, it is due to an additive or grease, fat on what you are feeding, it will pass, but if you aren't collecting the surface water with your filtration system it will take longer to go away

    Yes your protein skimmer sould remove those oils yes. but I have heard that that skimmer may not be the most effective. How big is your tank?
